Visitor

2024
Visitor renders the invisible palpable, transforming cosmic phenomena into ephemeral moments of human perception.

Muons—subatomic particles birthed in the depths of the cosmos—are translated into light and sound through a bespoke detector suspended in the venue.

Each muon’s arrival sets off a kinetic reaction: a beam races through an LED strip before igniting a cascade across a 65-metre truss suspended in darkness.

Lighting is synchronised with compositions via 8 speakers strategically positioned throughout the venue. The audience is surrounded by an otherworldly spatial symphony.

Imperceptible particles triggering a grand response.

This piece is an exploration of connection—between the cosmic and the terrestrial, between the invisible forces of the universe and the very human act of witnessing.

The muons, ancient travellers from the stars, are transformed into a sensory spectacle.
By highlighting these brief but powerful moments of cosmic interaction, Visitor invites audiences to contemplate the vastness of the universe, the fragility of our existence within it, and the mystery of the unseen forces that shape our world.

The piece plays with scale and distance: particles that journey for millennia arrive quietly next to the viewer, but they trigger an expansive, grand-scale reaction, reminding us of our delicate place in the universe.

Visitor blurs the line between art and nature, technology and magic, forging a connection between the audience and the universe, one muon at a time.
